Planeta Vino was founded by Miguel del Moral and Mary O’Connor in 2005, with the idea of creating a unique wine school in Madrid. 

Our focus from the beginning was to teach people bout the amazing world of Spanish Wines.  More specifically, we wanted to share this amazing part of Spanish culture with foreigners. 

For Miguel, it is a dream come true to own his own business and for Mary a dream come true to be working full time in the wine business. 

Planeta Vino has fulfilled our dreams and allows us to work with passion everyday!

Mary O’Connor:  Wine Director

Mary is originally from Washington DC but settled in Madrid in 2002.  As the daughter of a diplomat and later as a US Air Force officer, she lived and travelled in many wine-producing countries.  She has been involved in the wine sector since 1992.  Her education started with the UCLA Vintage Program and culminated in 2001 when she obtained Wine Spirits and Education Trust (WSET) Diploma.  She has worked in wine retail sales and has been teaching wine classes since 2002.  She is a member of the Union Española de Catadores (Spanish Wine-tasting Association) and the American Society of Wine Educators.

Miguel del Moral:  General Manager

Miguel is originally from Basque Country but settled in Madrid in 2002.  He has worked in sales in various sectors and is now turning his hand to the wine business. His studies were in law and marketing.  He is responsible for sales and client development as well as all the financial aspects of the business.  He became a sommelier after completing a 400 hour course in 2006.
